The Michigan Academy of Family Physicians, headquartered in Okemos (Lansing/East Lansing area), Michigan, is pleased to announce its search to replace the current Chief Executive Officer who will retire in October of 2009.

The Academy is a 3,000 member medical specialty society representing family physicians and the specialty of family medicine in Michigan. It is a constituent chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, headquartered in Leawood, Kansas.

The CEO is supported by a staff of three full-time employees and interns, usually from Michigan State University/East Lansing Campus.

Applicants may rest assured that all applications will be considered confidential. To ensure that confidentiality, interested candidates should provide a cover letter and current resume to miceosearch@gmail.com. The deadline for receipt of applications is July 12 if sent by email. If faxed or mailed, the deadline is July 9.

Salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications, although optional, expected salary range would be helpful.

Once again the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians will host their Annual Scientific Assembly at Grand Traverse from Friday, July 17 through Sunday, July 19.

THE "LATE" REGISTRATION FEE HAS BEEN WAIVED! TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CONTINUED LOW RATES FOR UP TO 26.5 CME CREDITS!

In an effort to continue to offer affordable, high-quality CME to our members, MAFP has decided to waive the June 26 "early bird" registration deadline. Now every MAFP member can continue to enjoy the low price of $100 for the entire 3-day program which has been approved for additional CME credits and now offers up to 26.5 Prescribed credit(s) by the AAFP!

This educational program designed specifically for family physicians will be highlighted as it is every year with the Francis P. "Dusty" Rhoades, M.D. Memorial Lecture. The 2009 Rhoades Lecture will focus on the highest priority of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Patient Centered Medical Home and will be presented by Richard Roberts, MD, a Past President of AAFP.

The 2009 program will include an emphasis on topics covered by the American Board of Family Medicine’s Self Assessment Modules (SAMs) required for Maintenance of Certification. These will include educational seminars on Asthma, Depression, Primary Prevention of Heart Disease, Hypertension, Women’s Health/Maternity Care, Pain Management, and Well Child Care. The remaining programs will discuss Fibromyalgia, Vitamin D, and Gout and Hyperuricemia. The 2009 Scientific Assembly will also feature a topic from the Uniformed Services AFP titled "The Care of Returning Service Members and Their Families: What Family Physicians Should Know."

MAFP H1N1 Influenza A "Swine Flu" Webinar Presentation

On Tuesday, May 5 MAFP and MAFP President Angelo Patsalis, MD hosted a free webinar for MAFP members on H1N1 Influenza A or what is known as "swine flu." Dr. Patsalis recruited his colleague at Henry Ford Health System, Dr. Marcus Zervos, an infectious disease specialist to provide the presentation.
