Criteria for Student & Resident Officers

Policies and Procedures for Election of Student and Resident Officers
[of the MAFP Committee on Resident and Student Affairs]

Voting will take place for resident and student officers at the Annual Student and Resident Conference for the following positions:

Resident Officers

Chair of CRSA (who is also the voting resident representative to the Board of Directors)
Vice-chair of CRSA
Secretary of CRSA

Voting:
  1. One vote per residency program present.
  2. Ballots for all positions will be distributed prior to the beginning of voting.
In the event of a tie:
  1. If the tie is between two candidates, where there were more than two candidates originally running, for the position a second vote will be taken for only the tied candidates.
  2. If a tie still exists or if there were only two candidates running for the position, efforts will be made to ensure that every residency program present voted, by comparing to pre-established attendance list, and if there are any residency programs not voting, their ballots will be added and all will be re-counted
  3. If a tie still exists, or there were no residencies unaccounted for, the tie breaking vote will be made by:
    1. the standing Chair of CRSA unless she or he has a conflict of interest (one of the candidates is from their respective residency program) then the vote goes to
    2. the standing Vice Chair of CRSA unless he or she has a conflict of interest (one of the candidates is from their respective residency program or they are running for the position being voted upon), the vote then goes to
    3. the standing Secretary of CRSA unless she or he has a conflict of interest (one of the candidates is from their respective residency program or they are running for the position being voted upon).

Student Officers

Student Chair of CRSA (who is also the voting student representative to the MAFP Board of Directors)
Student Vice-chair of CRSA
Secretary of CRSA

Voting:
  1. Voting will take place at the Annual Student and Resident Conference for the positions of Student Chair and Student Vice Chair.
  2. One vote per MAFP student member present at the business meeting during the Annual Student and Resident Conference.
In the event of a tie:
  1. If a tie is between two candidates, where there were more than two candidates originally running for the position of Student Vice Chair, a second vote will be taken for only the tied candidates.
  2. If a tie still exists or if there were only two candidates running for the position, efforts will be made to ensure that every student present voted by comparing votes to pre-established attendance list; if there are any students not voting, their ballots will be added and all will be recounted.
  3. If a tie still exists, or there were no students unaccounted, the tie breaking vote will be made by the current Student Chair of CRSA.

The Committee on Resident and Student Affairs of the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians, shall[1] at their discretion, in regards to CRSA officers, have the power to remove such officers that fail to attend at least half of the regularly scheduled meetings, provided that the officer in question has unjustifiable excuses.
