MSUCHM Student Appointed to National Editorial Advisory Board

Julie Ngo, a student in the class of 2023 at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, has been appointed to serve a one-year term as student representative to the Annals of Family Medicine Editorial Advisory Board. This is one of several national leadership positions open to medical students and family medicine residents who are members of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Bill Calling for More Residency Slots is Gaining Congressional Support

A federal bill to increase the number of Medicare-funded graduate medical education (GME) positions by 14,000 (half for primary care physicians, half for other specialists) over the next seven years is gaining Congressional support. The measure also would lift the cap on the number of GME slots at qualifying hospitals, giving preference to hospitals in several areas.

Live CME No Longer Required for Academy Membership

AAFP Board of Directors approved recommendations put forth by the Commission on Membership and Member Services and Commission on Continuing Professional Development, to eliminate the requirement that active members complete 25 live continuing medical education (CME) credits.

AAFP Supports Patient Protections in "No Surprises" Act While Calling for Administrative Simplification

On Sept. 30, the U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor, and Treasury and the Office of Personnel Management issued an interim final rule with comment period to further implement the No Surprises Act – a consumer protection law that helps curb the practice of surprise medical billing. A stakeholder briefing on the interim rule is taking place on Oct. 4, 2 pm ET. AAFP expresses strong support for patient protections and calls for sharper focus on administrative simplification.
