Michigan Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) is the state’s largest specialty physician association. With more than 4,200 members, MAFP is dedicated to assisting Family Physicians and their practices as they work to ensure high-quality, cost-effective healthcare for patients of all ages.

Michigan resident and student delegates Julie Thai, MD, MPH (McLaren-Flint Family Medicine Residency), Linda Stanek, MD (Beaumont Health-Grosse Pointe Medicine Residency), Shelby Owens (Michigan State University College of Human Medicine), and Sara Robinson (Central Michigan University College of Medicine) were among nearly 1,900 medical students and 1,300 residents who attended the 2019 National Conference in Kansas City, MO, August 25-27. In addition to electing national resident and student leaders and attending conference sessions, these delegates authored three resolutions that, with substitutes, were approved by the National Congress of Family Medicine Residents and National Congress of Student Members.
While attending AAFP’s National Conference of Family Medicine Residents & Medical Students, August 25-27, in Kansas City, Missouri, fourth-year Central Michigan University College of Medicine student, Sara Robinson, was elected AAFP student representative on the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Board of Directors.
As kids are heading back to school, it’s important to remind families about the seriousness of staying up to date on all immunizations. That's the message state health officials delivered during an I Vaccinate press event held on August 15. At the national level, the CDC launched a series of short #HowIRecommend videos designed to help physicians communicate effectively with patients about the importance of vaccination and overcome vaccine hesitancy.
During the Michigan Family Medicine Celebration at Shanty Creek Resort on August 3, MAFP presented its pinnacle award, the 'Archie' Award of Excellence, to past chair and president Loretta Leja, MD of Cheboygan.
