State House & Senate Committee Assignments Announced for 2019-2020 Legislative Session

As of January 17, leadership in both chambers have released their respective committee assignments for the 2019-2020 legislative session. Now the work begins to educate new and returning lawmakers, particularly those who serve on committees with jurisdiction over health policy and appropriations, about the value of Family Medicine and the delivery of, and access to, primary care.

ABFM Certification Longitudinal Assessment Pilot Underway

American Board of Family Medicine’s Family Medicine Certification Longitudinal Assessment launched on January 4 for currently board-certified Family Physicians who are in the 10th year of their certification cycle and due to take their exam in 2019. Family Physicians who have completed all requirements and submitted an approved application can now access the first set of 25 questions from within their Physician Portfolio on ABFM’s website. The deadline to complete the first quarter is March 31. Physicians still wanting to apply for the pilot or one-day exam may do so until March 1.

Additional State Funding Appropriated to Fight Hepatitis A Outbreak

Before adjourning in December 2018, the Michigan legislature passed, and former Governor Snyder signed, a 2018-2019 supplemental appropriations bill that allocates $7.1 million in additional funding to combat the state's Hepatitis A outbreak. With this additional funding, the state has spent $14.2 million over the past two years to fight the outbreak. This marks the first time the state has allocated funds to assist in combating an outbreak.
