International Medical Graduates' Path to a Family Medicine Career
International medical graduates (IMGs)—physicians who attended medical school outside the United States and Canada—are a significant (25%) and growing segment of this country’s physician workforce. IMGs are prominent in primary care, caring for vulnerable populations, and in health professional shortage areas.
Nearly 80% of IMGs are not U.S. citizens when they begin residency, which often creates particular challenges that U.S.-born residents don’t face.
Come with your questions to ask a panel of accomplished IMG family physicians and benefit from their paths to success. Discussion topics will focus on adjusting to the U.S. healthcare system, finding mentors, immigration issues, networking, finding fellowships, applying for jobs, and more.
