National Resident & Student Congresses
That National Congress of Family Medicine Residents and National Congress of Student Members meet duing AAFP's National Conference of Family Medicine Residents & Medical Students, held in late July / early August in Kansas City, MO. They were created more than 35 years ago as the official voices of residents and students in AAFP. Through these forums, resident and student members electe their national officers and advocate for a wide variety of issues and causes.
Congress sessions are open to anyone registered for National Conference. To speak and vote on recommendations before your congress, you must be a resident or student member of AAFP. To vote in elections, you must be a chapter delegate.
Each year, Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan sends two residents and two students to serve as chapter delegates and alternate delegates to the congresses. Delegates are selected by the Student & Resident Education Committee, based on applications received, and then approved by the Foundation's Board of Trustees.
Delegates attend all congress sessions, poll their state delegations about issues before the congresses, and vote in elections. They also serve as ambassadors at the annual Michigan Reception, held the Friday evening of conference.
Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan awards the selected delegates with a post-event scholarship of up to $1,000 to cover conference-related expenses. Delegates are required to submit a travel reimbursement form, all accompanying receipts, and a post-event report.
MAFP is accepting applications from resident and student members until April 1.
