Michigan Family Physicians Serve in AAFP Leadership Roles

MAFP applauds four members for their service on several AAFP Commissions. Earlier this month, these leaders attended the AAFP Winter Cluster Meeting where they worked to improve family medicine and patient care nationwide.

Rachel M. Klamo, DO, MS, FAAFP (Oxford), MAFP President, has been appointed to the AAFP Commission on Continuing Professional Development, guiding continuing medical education programs that enhance physician knowledge and patient outcomes. This commission helps guide the AAFP’s credit system and its provision of continuing medical education that helps members and other health care professionals demonstrate continuous improvement in knowledge, competence, practice performance, and patient outcomes as well as fulfill educational requirements for licensure and certification.

Beena Nagappala, MD, MPH, FAAFP (Clinton Township) continues her service on the AAFP Commission on Federal and State Policy, influencing initiatives that improve family medicine and patient care nationwide. In her role, she helps shape advocacy initiatives and health policies that improve family medicine and patient care nationwide. Dr. Nagappala was originally appointed to the commission in December 2023. Through her work, the Commission shapes the AAFP’s federal advocacy strategy and support state-level advocacy efforts that address key healthcare challenges.

Delicia Pruitt, MD, MPH, FAAFP (Saginaw) was reappointed to the AAFP Commission on Health of the Public and Science, where she works to develop clinical recommendations and address health disparities. The commission develops clinical recommendations, promotes public health initiatives, and works to address health disparities affecting patients and communities. Dr. Pruitt was initially appointed to the commission in 2022.

Ahmed Saleh, MD (Flint), a PGY-3 resident at McLaren-Flint Family Medicine Residency, was appointed to the AAFP Commission on Continuing Professional Development, bringing his advocacy for primary care access and healthcare equity to the national stage. Dr. Saleh is committed to addressing healthcare disparities, primary care shortages, and women's health issues through policy advocacy and leadership.

“These physicians exemplify leadership and dedication to advancing family medicine,” said Karlene Ketola, CEO of MAFP. “Their contributions will shape the future of healthcare for years to come.”
