MAFP Members Support Future Family Physicians at Wayne Trained Event

On March 5, MAFP President Rachel M. Klamo, DO, MS, FAAFP participated in the Wayne Trained event at the Wayne State University School of MedicineDr. Klamo attended the event to support students, connect with faculty, and share insights on the importance of strong mentorship in family medicine.

This innovative program, launched in 2024, enhances medical students' training and professional development by integrating clinical training, mentorship, and leadership development to ensure a seamless transition from medical school to residency. All Wayne Trained coaches are family physicians, said Jinping Xu, MD, MS, FAAFP, Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Wayne State University. 

“Wayne Trained is based on the Master Adaptive Learner framework, designed by the American Medical Association to assist physicians in becoming master adaptive learners," said Dr. Xu. "This novel program will not only enhance the school’s current MD student’s support, but it will also improve student’s understanding of the impact of family medicine has as a specialty on the patients, health systems and communities."
