Speak Out: Tell State and Federal Lawmakers to Protect Medicaid

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed its budget reconciliation bill, which now advances to the U.S. Senate for consideration. We face a critical moment to speak out against provisions that threaten access to care and undermine the Medicaid program. This legislation includes several deeply concerning changes that would restrict coverage, reduce state flexibility, and harm patients you serve, especially those who are most vulnerable. Now is the time to lend your voice.

Federal Advocacy
The U.S. Senate needs to hear from family physicians who understand the real-world impact of these policy decisions. We must push back against the most problematic provisions and advocate for a final bill that protects access to care and supports the health of our communities.

Use the pre-drafted letter to email Sen. Elissa Slotkin or Sen. Gary Peters. Both are strongly opposed to any cuts to Medicaid. Click here to access the letter.

State Advocacy
For decades, the Medicaid program has provided health care coverage for millions of people, including children and parents, low-income adults, older adults, pregnant patients, individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, and individuals with disabilities, in communities large and small, urban and rural.

On Wednesday, the Senate Health Policy Committee received testimony from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services regarding Michigan's Medicaid program and potential impacts the state would see from any cuts. Here is written testimony submitted by President Rachel M. Klamo, DO, MS, FAAFP formally opposing Medicaid cuts. Here are talking points to email your Representative or Senator
