Wayne State FMIG Showcases Family Medicine Opportunities at Falloween Event

Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) hosted its Falloween event on Oct. 28, highlighting the wide-ranging opportunities and rewarding careers within family medicine.

The event, organized by FMIG student leaders and supported through FMIG funding from the Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan, included food and refreshments for attendees and featured a panel discussion with MAFP members Leanne Swiderski, MD; Elizabeth Lewan, DO; Aaron Rivkin, MD; and Scott Yaekle, MD. Panelists shared insights into their career paths, practice settings, and the meaningful relationships they’ve built with patients and communities throughout their careers. Margit Chadwell, MD, FAAFP, associate professor of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences and senior associate dean of Students and Undergraduate Medical Education Initiatives at Wayne State University School of Medicine, also attended to support the event. MAFP staff opened the session with an overview of leadership programs and member benefits available to medical students interested in exploring family medicine.

Events like Falloween reflect the leadership and initiative of Michigan’s FMIGs—and the impact of FMFM’s ongoing investment in student programming—in inspiring the next generation of family physicians. MAFP is proud to partner with FMIGs across the state to promote enthusiasm for family medicine and strengthen the physician pipeline.
