Dr. Eisinger and Dr. Piper Join Gov. Whitmer for FY26 Budget Signing

MAFP members David Eisinger, MD, MPA and Lauren Piper, DO were present as Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed the state’s Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) budget, highlighting bipartisan measures that protect $2.7 billion in core Medicaid services for Michiganders.

The budget ensures Michigan’s health system remains strong amid ongoing federal funding challenges. The plan safeguards essential health services and reinforces the state’s commitment to quality, affordable care for all residents.

“The balanced, bipartisan budget I signed will protect access to health care for millions of Michiganders and ensure our hospitals have the resources they need to stay open and keep serving patients,” said Governor Whitmer in an Oct. 13 press release. “As we face huge federal cuts that threaten to destabilize health care, we’re being strategic and proactive in Michigan to protect funding and stay flexible for the future.”

MAFP members joined other health care leaders and state officials at the signing ceremony, underscoring family physicians’ essential role in maintaining access to care and advocating for the policies that sustain Michigan’s primary care system.
