Resident Spotlight: Dr. Maan Faraj Builds Leadership Through MAFP

The Michigan Academy of Family Physicians offers residents meaningful opportunities to grow as leaders and advocates. Learn how Maan Faraj, MD, a PGY-3 family medicine resident at Detroit Medical Center-Sinai Grace Hospital / Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is strengthening his family medicine connection through MAFP.

Why did you want to serve as a Resident Ambassador?
I was excited to serve as a Resident Ambassador because I genuinely believe in the mission of MAFP and the power of resident engagement. Being involved has allowed me to connect with residents across the state, advocate for our shared interests, and contribute to the growth and future of family medicine in Michigan.

What is one way MAFP has supported you during residency?
MAFP has been an incredible source of support through leadership development, mentorship, and opportunities to engage beyond my home program. It’s helped me feel more connected, inspired, and confident as a resident physician.

What would you tell another resident who’s considering getting involved with MAFP?
I’d tell them to absolutely go for it. Getting involved with MAFP opens doors to mentorship, leadership, and statewide connection — you realize quickly that your voice matters and that you’re part of something bigger than your own residency.
