Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Bill Heads to Governor for Signature, Assures Care for Michigan Patients, Licenses for Physicians
On Tuesday, March 24 the Michigan Senate approved House Bill 5455, legislation maintaining Michigan’s participation in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. Michigan’s membership in the Compact was set to expire March 28 without legislative action. The bill now goes to Governor Gretchen Whitmer for her signature.
MAFP appreciates lawmakers for finally coming to an agreement and approving House Bill 5455, maintaining Michigan's participation in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact and protecting more than 8,000 physicians and the patients who depend on them. This bipartisan legislation ensures that Michiganders — particularly those in underserved communities who rely on telemedicine and out-of-state specialists — will maintain access to the care they need without unnecessary disruption.
