Applications Open for Angelo Patsalis Vanguard Award

The Angelo Patsalis Vanguard Award recognizes the next generation of family medicine leaders committed to serving communities in Southeastern Michigan. Each year, two graduating family medicine residents are selected to receive a $5,000 award in recognition of their leadership, dedication to community service, and commitment to advancing family medicine. Candidates should demonstrate a clear commitment to practicing in Oakland, Wayne, or Macomb County, along with a passion for advocacy and community impact.

Eligible Applicants

  • Must be nominated by their residency program director or a designated representative. There is a maximum of two nominees per program annually.
  • Have demonstrated commitment to practicing in Oakland, Wayne, or Macomb County.
  • Show interest in advocacy and community impact.

To apply, nominees must submit:

  • A letter of recommendation from their program director or assistant director.
  • A current CV.
  • A personal statement (up to 1,000 words): “How I plan to be a champion for Family Medicine in my community.”
  • Proof of commitment to practicing in Oakland, Wayne, or Macomb County.
