Grow as a Family Medicine Leader with the Leadership and Development ProgramMichigan Academy of Family Physicians invites Active and Resident members to apply for the 2026 Family Medicine Leadership and Development Program, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4, at the Henry Center for Executive Development in Lansing.
This program is designed to strengthen your leadership skills through immersive experiences in family medicine. Participants will learn practical strategies for effective communication, leadership in organized medicine, patient and physician advocacy, and navigating leadership roles at state and national levels. There is no tuition fee. Meals, program materials, and CME credit are provided. Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses. The day begins with a networking continental breakfast, followed by sessions on Effective Communication Using DiSC®, Pathways to MAFP and AAFP Leadership, Negotiating in a Budget Neutral Environment, and Advocacy and Influence. Past participants describe the program as practical and inspiring.
“I thought all the lectures were great! I learned quite a bit regarding board membership, and this inspired me to be much more vocal on the boards I serve,” one past attendee shared. “I am also more committed to joining in on Advocacy Day and discussing the issues at hand with our current lawmakers.” Another shared, “It relit the fire to get me involved in policy.” The program is open to MAFP Active and Resident members in good standing. Previous participants are not eligible to reapply. Applicants must complete the online application and submit a paragraph explaining their interest, along with a current resume or CV and a headshot.
