MAFP Promotes Strengthening Primary Care at Legislative Lunch & Learn

On June 24, Michigan Academy of Family Physicians attended the Primary Care Lunch & Learn in the Mackinac Room of the House Office Building with legislative hosts Rep. Matt Longjohn, D-Portage, and Rep. Doug Wozniak, R-Shelby Twp. The event was hosted in partnership with the Michigan State Medical Society, Milbank Memorial Fund, Michigan Multipayer Initiatives, and the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and featured Diana Bianco of the Milbank Memorial Fund as the keynote speaker.

The session brought together health care leaders, policy experts, and legislators to examine opportunities to strengthen Michigan’s primary care landscape and the health of Michigan citizens. The message was clear: Invest in primary care to prevent and manage chronic disease, improve outcomes, and lower total health care costs. One of the main goals of the session was to rally legislators and other health care partners to work collectively to advance strategies that increase and support timely access to comprehensive, team-based primary care.

MAFP will continue to engage in this important effort, working with partners and policymakers to advocate for solutions that strengthen primary care and improve access to high-quality care for patients across Michigan.
