William Childs, DO, II has been named interim program director of the Henry Ford Family Medicine Residency Program. As a graduate of the program and a Detroit native, Dr. Childs said the role carries significant personal and professional meaning, noting that the residency serves many of the same communities that shaped him and inspired his career in medicine.

“Detroit poured into me long before I ever wore a white coat,” he said. “It is an honor to continue giving back by helping prepare the physicians who will care for the next generation of Detroiters.”

In the interim role, Dr. Childs will focus on helping unify and stabilize the program as it prepares for new leadership. The Henry Ford Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program offers a robust, individualized curriculum rooted in patient-centered, community-oriented and evidence-based care. Located in Detroit, the program prepares residents through diverse clinical training, faculty mentorship and strong community partnerships.

In a social media post about the announcement, Dr. Childs thanked the current Residency Director Richard Bryce, DO for his years of leadership, mentorship and dedication to the program’s residents, faculty, staff and patients.

"His impact on this program will be felt for years to come, and I am grateful for the foundation he has built," Dr. Childs said.
