The Grand Rapids and Lansing Family Medicine Interest Groups (FMIGs) at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine started the year strong with hands-on events introducing students to practical skills and tools used in family medicine.

Grand Rapids FMIG Explores Contraceptive Care
The Grand Rapids FMIG partnered with Bayer to host an IUD placement and contraceptive care workshop on June 17. Students practiced counseling and placement techniques, received certificates of completion and took home practice kits to continue building their skills.

MAFP members Lauren Snyder, MD; Sarna Becker, MD; and Taylor Lautzenhiser, MD, participated as family medicine faculty. The Grand Rapids FMIG is led by Rayyan Khan, Marianne DeLapp, Marian Allan and Luke Witvliet.

Lansing FMIG Hosts Continuous Glucose Monitor Workshop
The Lansing FMIG welcomed Michael Loerger, MD, PhD, MPH, a family medicine and lifestyle medicine physician practicing in Michigan and Ohio, for a two-part continuous glucose monitoring workshop on Aug. 3 and 11. The 23 attendees learned how to apply and use CGMs, explored applications beyond diabetes management and discussed how to interpret the data they provide.

The Lansing FMIG is led by Stephanie Slaven, Ryan Dubey and Megan Sparks.
