Effective Communication Using DiSC
This session supports participants with developing the social and emotional know-how for more effective (and enjoyable!) interactions with patients, co-workers, and business partners. DiSC offers a highly personalized learning experience that identifies an individual’s preferences and tendencies in four basic behavioral styles. Participants will see their unique DiSC style represented on a map, allowing them to intuitively recognize and understand themselves and how they relate to others in the workplace.

Foundations of Board Governance
Effective board governance is critical for the success and sustainability of nonprofit organizations. This session ensures that board members understand their legal duties and the core components of leadership needed for long-term success. Participants will learn about the three legal duties of a nonprofit board member, the ten basic responsibilities of a nonprofit board, the difference between a working board and a governing board, and at least one actionable “better practice” to implement into their own board governance practices. This workshop is designed for family physicians considering board service at the community or state level, as well as those seeking a refresher.

Media Relations: Strategies for Success
The media landscape is constantly changing, with outlets competing over tight deadlines and pressure for clicks and views. This session will demonstrate that by putting yourself into a reporter's mindset, remembering a few simple tricks and taking the time to help them do their job, you can shape the outcome of a story to your and your organization's advantage.

Advocacy and Using Your Influence
The AAFP and MAFP’s powerful advocacy gains force when you add your voice to the fight for family medicine. Each of the Academy’s 130,000 family physicians — including you — is a constituent, a respected community member and a health care authority. When you use the AAFP and MAFP’s resources to engage with your lawmakers, you exert real influence and amplify the Academy’s work to shape federal and state policies favorable to your practices and your patients. The session will also include guidance on how to have successful meetings with legislators and how to give persuasive testimony to a legislative committee.
Faculty: Emily Henderson, Government Affairs Consultant, McCall Hamilton
