Did you know that August marks the annual observance of National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM)? Family Physicians play a critical role in educating patients about the importance of vaccines and protecting themselves and their children from vaccine-preventable diseases. As such, Michigan Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) has been actively engaged in organized immunization outreach efforts and partnering with other advocates around the state, including a broad stakeholder group known as the Parent Information Network (PIN). Together, we have helped raise awareness around the importance of immunizations and encouraged parents to make vaccination a priority.
PIN’s efforts have been bolstered recently with the launch of the IVaccinate public awareness campaign, supported by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Franny Strong Foundation. The campaign is aimed at arming Michigan parents with information and tools based on real medical science and research to help protect their children.
As August is NIAM and kids will soon be heading back to school, MAFP encourages all MAFP members to help spread the word on their social media channels about #NIAM17 and the #IVaccinate campaign. READ MORE
To coincide with NIAM, the Health is Primary campaign's focus in August is on reminding patients to make sure their immunizations are up-to-date. Click here for materials you can share with your patients to educate them about the value of vaccines across the lifespan.
