Oct. 13, 2022 - The State of Michigan’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget includes state-appropriated funding to support an increase in Medicaid reimbursement rates, up to 95% of Medicare reimbursement rates, for certain primary care services. Effective for dates of service on and after Oct. 1, specific primary care Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes are eligible for this payment increase.
Payment that more accurately reflects the comprehensive care primary care physicians provide to Medicaid beneficiaries is something that MAFP and its members have been advocating for quite some time. This will help physician offices that care for a large number of Medicaid patients remain financially viable. Not only will this help ensure more of Michigan’s vulnerable residents have access to primary care services, it will make primary care specialties, including family medicine, more competitive with other specialties.
