MAFP Provides State-mandated CME for Members

Dec. 19, 2022 - On Dec. 13, nearly 100 family physicians participated in the “Understanding Implicit Bias and Microaggressions” live webinar hosted by MAFP. This educational opportunity was presented with the knowledge that implicit bias can impact the patient-physician relationship and healthcare outcomes. The expert faculty, Melinda Messineo, PhD, reminded attendees that being aware of biases is the first step toward working against them and building valuable connections with others.

This free event for MAFP members offered CME credit towards meeting the State of Michigan’s implicit bias training requirement for medical licensure. Life members, active physicians, residents, and medical students participated in this interactive webinar to learn more about this vital topic. Members shared that:

“This was such a good idea and added value for members. I compliment those who thought and developed this as it is now a requirement for our members.”

“The presenter was very engaging, even at this early hour!”

“The speaker used great examples to clarify the information presented.”

“My status as a retired family physician and the licensing requirements aside, I want to personally thank you for arranging this morning’s program. It was professionally presented, with obvious enthusiasm, and respectful of busy professionals’ time. The subject is so timely in the 'tense' world we occupy. Thank you.”

Hosting this free, year-end CME webinar is just one way that MAFP continues to show appreciation for our 4,200-plus members. The Academy exists to advocate for and support you in our ongoing work of advancing family medicine with the goal of ensuring all Michiganders have access to quality, affordable, family-physician led team-based care. MAFP's Professional Development Committee prompted this implicit bias webinar and is always looking for innovative and impactful ways to serve members; please reach out if you have ideas.
