Michigan Medical Services Administration Issues Policy Change on GP Payment Rates

In response to a provision in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 state budget (Public Act 107 of 2017), Michigan Medical Services Administration (MSA) issued a notice of proposed policy that physicians with the primary specialty designation of General Medicine would be eligible, effective January 1, 2018, to qualify as primary care providers for the purposes of receiving enhanced payment rates for certain primary care services (~78% of Medicare rates). Services that qualify for the increased payment rates are published in a separate fee schedule that can be found here.

According to data released by Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, 145 general practitioners are currently licensed in the state.
