National Conference Scholarship Opportunities for Residents, Students

Each year, AAFP Foundation and Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan offer scholarships to help Resident and Student members attend AAFP's National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students in Kansas City, MO. Past attendees have rated the conference as an invaluable educational and networking opportunity, as well as a chance to learn more about Family Medicine. This year's conference is being held August 2-4. Below are the scholarships available and their corresponding application deadlines.

Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute Scholarship

  • This year-long AAFP Foundation leadership development program starts immediately following National Conference.
  • The highly competitive program accepts 30 scholars who each receive a $1,000 award to help with travel and lodging expenses.
  • The application deadline is March 1.

Each year since the program's inaugural year in 2015, a Resident or Student member of MAFP has been selected as a scholar. Michigan Resident / Student Delegate Scholarship

  • Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan is accepting applications from Resident and Student members of MAFP who are interested in serving as a Michigan Delegate to their respective Congress, which convenes during National Conference.
  • Two Residents and two Students each receive a scholarship of up to $1,000 to help cover conference-related expenses such as registration, travel, lodging, and meals.
  • The application deadline is April 1.

Family Medicine Leads Scholarship

  • AAFP Foundation provides 220 scholarships valued at $600 each to assist Residents and Students with conference-related expenses such as registration, travel, lodging, and meals.
  • Please note that the award categories have changed this year, so review them carefully before applying.
  • The application deadline is May 1.

Please note that a Family Medicine Leads scholarship application will be considered only if an applicant is not selected for the Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute. Likewise, a Michigan Resident / Student Delegate scholarship application will be considered only if an applicant is not selected for the Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute. If a selected Michigan Resident / Student Delegate is chosen to receive a Family Medicine Leads Scholarship, the scholarship he/she receives from Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan will be reduced to $400.
