State Budget Process Continues: Chambers Pass Their Proposals

May 9, 2022 - Proposed state budgets have now passed both the Michigan House and Senate, teeing up a soon-to-be appointed conference committee’s work of coming to agreement on points of difference.

Negotiations will pick up steam following the Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference on May 20, when revised state revenue numbers will be released and incorporated into final budget discussions and targets.

Of particular importance to MAFP are line items for funding MIDOCs, the Michigan State Loan Repayment Program, and increased Medicaid reimbursement rates. Each chamber’s proposal for these programs/initiatives remain unchanged from the budget passed by its Appropriations Committee.

Throughout the budget process, MAFP continues to represent the interests of family physicians through the lens of patient health outcomes and access to care, family medicine practice viability and sustainability, and preserving the physician-patient relationship.
