In a letter sent to Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives Lee Chatfield this week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer requested moving her first State of the State Address from February 5 to February 12, so as not to conflict with President Trump's State of the Union Address.
The State of the Union, originally scheduled for January 29, was postponed due to the partial federal government shutdown.
Speaker Chatfield approved Governor Whitmer's request, and it is expected the legislature will pass the joint resolution that is required to convene a joint session of the House and Senate for the address. Votes on the resolution were pre-empted this week by Michigan's extreme weather conditions that closed the legislature January 30-31.
MAFP is proud to once again co-sponsor WKAR's live broadcast of the State of the State on publication television and Radio 90.5 FM. Governor Whitmer will begin her address at 7 pm.
