Opioids: How We Got Here, How to Prescribe by the Rules & How to Address Patients' Beliefs

On-demand Webinar

The misuse of and addiction to opioids is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare. How did we, as Americans, find ourselves in an opioid epidemic and what can we, as family physicians, do to help?

This three-hour webinar discusses the history of opioids and the opioid epidemic in America, the legal requirements when prescribing opioids in Michigan, and how family physicians can manage opioids in clinical practice, with suggestions on screening for substance use disorder, tapering methods, and changing the pain narrative. Participants will also gain a better understanding of the physiology of chronic and acute pain and how to help patients better manage their symptoms.
