Dr. Susan Stevens joined the MAFP Board of Directors in July 2022, serving as a director. She brings with her nearly 30 years of family medicine practice and medical education experience. She earned her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1990 and completed family medicine residency at Beaumont Health-Wayne (formerly Oakwood Hospital) in 1994.
Today Dr. Stevens practices at Western Wayne Physicians, a large group practice in Livonia, and is an associate professor of family medicine, with teaching affiliations at Wayne State University School of Medicine and the University of Michigan Medical School. She also precepts medical students and residents within her practice—something she has done for 25 years.
Other leadership positions Dr. Stevens holds include vice president of the Southeastern Michigan Academy of Family Physicians, a local chapter of MAFP serving members in Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb counties, and chair of MAFP’s Member Engagement Committee.
“Being on the MAFP Board is one more step in my interest in family medicine and the promotion of it. I have always been passionate about family medicine, believing that our specialty is so important to the future, and I am always willing to add my work ethic and enthusiasm to ensure that family physicians continue to hold leadership positions in the medical community as well as be a contributing part of the community in which they practice and live. I have always believed that medicine is not a job, but a lifestyle, and I am proud that it is my lifestyle,” said Dr. Stevens.
