AAFP Responds to Supreme Court Decision
Today the Supreme Court rendered its ruling in Dobbs v Jackson, which, by overturning Roe v Wade, criminalizes medical care, undermines the patient-physician relationship, and exacerbates health inequities. MAFP joins AAFP in urging the Michigan Legislature, and all state legislatures, to strike down laws that jeopardize reproductive care and access.
Michigan Naturopath Licensure, Scope Bill Puts Patient Health at Risk
During a Michigan Senate Health Policy and Human Services Committee hearing on May 26, MAFP Chair Mark Hamed, MD, MBA, MPH, FAAFP testified in strong opposition to legislation that would, among other things, allow for the licensure of naturopathic providers and classify them as physicians
State Budget Process Continues: Chambers Pass Their Proposals
Proposed state budgets have now passed both the Michigan House and Senate, teeing up a soon-to-be appointed conference committee’s work of coming to agreement on points of difference. Of particular importance to MAFP are line items for funding MIDOCs, the Michigan State Loan Repayment Program, and increased Medicaid reimbursement rates. The latter is something MAFP has been advocating for quite some time and is included in Senate's proposal,
Michigan’s Member Constituency Delegates Inspire, Create, Lead at NCCL
AAFP's 2022 National Conference of Constituency Leaders (NCCL) was a busy and productive 2-plus days for the five delegates who represented MAFP. Among the highlights was the passage of four resolutions (ideas for change) proposed by the Michigan delegation and the election of Delicia Pruitt, MD, FAAFP to two national leadership positions.
