Who We Are
In June 1948, Michigan Academy of General Practice was chartered as the 19th Constituent Chapter of American Academy of General Practice. To more accurately reflect the changing nature of primary healthcare, the national academy changed its name to American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) in 1971. Constituent Chapters followed suit, and our organization become known as Michigan Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP). In September 1990, MAFP was granted 501(c)(6) status by the Internal Revenue Service and was incorporated as a Michigan nonprofit corporation.
Since 1948, MAFP has been led by an outstanding roster of family physicians who have dedicated their time and talent to advance the specialty in Michigan. Today, MAFP is the state’s largest specialty physician association. With more than 4,200 members, the Michigan chapter of AAFP is dedicated to assisting family physicians and their practices as they work to ensure high-quality, cost-effective healthcare for patients of all ages.
Michigan Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) supports family physicians in Michigan through leadership, collaboration, and innovation to achieve the best patient outcomes.
Ensuring all Michigan residents have access to quality, affordable healthcare within a family physician-led medical home.
MAFP is led by the Board of Directors, a knowledgeable team of family physicians who guide the Academy. If you are interested in volunteering for the Board, contact MAFP Headquarters at [email protected] or 517.347.0098.
Assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Academy is the MAFP Staff. Please contact the staff with questions, if you need assistance, or if you have an idea to share—we are here to be a resource for you!
