MAFP Annual Meeting Notice Coming to Members—Watch Your Inbox on July 14

As required by Michigan Academy of Family Physicians bylaws, a notice of the organization’s Annual Meeting must be provided to members 30 days in advance of the meeting. With this year’s Annual Meeting of the membership taking place on Monday, Aug. 14, the notice will be emailed to all members on July 14 and posted on MAFP’s website. Included will be the meeting agenda, slate of candidates for the MAFP Board of Directors, and resolutions to be discussed and voted on.

All MAFP members are invited to the Annual Meeting, which is free of charge, includes complimentary lunch, and is being held in conjunction with the Michigan Family Medicine Conference & Expo at Grand Traverse Resort in Acme (near Traverse City). Agenda

In addition to conducting official business of MAFP—namely, electing and swearing in leadership and discussing and voting on resolutions—the Annual Meeting is when Michigan’s newest fellows of the American Academy of Family Physicians are conferred, the outgoing MAFP president delivers a farewell speech, and the MAFP chief executive officer provides an overview of the state of the Academy.

Slate of Board Candidates

Michigan Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors consists of members who volunteer their time to serve as advisors and representatives of the Academy:

  • Six officers (1-year term)
  • Four delegates/alternate delegates to the AAFP Congress of Delegates (1-year term)
  • Eight members-at-large (2-year term)
  • One resident member (1-year term)
  • One student member (1-year term)

MAFP accepts Board applications by March 1 of each year, with terms of service beginning at the Annual Meeting.

Resolutions

Resolutions are members’ formal written proposals for establishing policy, addressing issues of concern, eliminating non-essential activities, or exploring or implementing new programs.

All MAFP members, from life members to student members, are eligible to submit resolutions. At the 2023 Annual Meeting, the membership will discuss and vote on 14 resolutions that MAFP received by the published deadline of June 21.

During the Annual Meeting, authors and any other MAFP members may testify/share their rationale for supporting or not supporting resolutions. Members present at the meeting will then vote to adopt, not adopt, reaffirm, or offer substitute resolutions for adoption; approval requires a majority vote.

Approved resolutions affecting AAFP are sent to AAFP for consideration at the next AAFP Congress of Delegates; the 2023 Congress of Delegates is being held Oct. 25-27 in Chicago.
