With the addition of these new fellows, there are now 467 AAFP Fellows in Michigan and more than 18,000 nationwide.

AAFP established the Degree of Fellow in 1971 as an avenue for recognizing Academy members who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues, as well as in their communities, by their service to the family medicine specialty, the advancement of healthcare to the American people, and their professional development through medical education and research.

Fellows are dedicated to the principles upon which the Academy was founded as well as providing comprehensive lifelong care to patients, exemplifying the highest traditions of the profession, enhancing one’s professional skills through continuing medical education, improving the health of patients, their families and communities, and advancing the specialty of family medicine.
