AAFP Urges Physicians to Act Amid Rising RSV Rates

A recent assessment found that Michigan has more than 50% of its VFC nirsevimab allotment still available. Given that RSV activity in Michigan is at 13.8% and higher than the national average (11% RSV percent positivity from NREVSS) and may continue to increase, AAFP recommends family physicians and their teams reach out to their jurisdiction’s immunization program regarding availability of Vaccine for Children VFC nirsevimab doses, and to the manufacturer regarding availability of private-purchase nirsevimab doses. Getting infants less than 8 months of age immunized with nirsevimab reduces the risk of severe RSV by 80%.
