MAFP Dedicated to Educating New Legislators About Family Medicine

Last week, the House remained adjourned while the Senate convened on Wednesday. We expect the slower cadence of legislative business to continue ahead of the November 5 election with a lame duck session being dependent on the election’s outcome. 

MAFP is preparing to introduce newly elected officials to family medicine. Many of these new legislators will need significant education to truly appreciate the importance of family medicine and you can assist by signing up for MAFP’s Key Contact program

Introduced Bills of Note:

SB 1035 of 2024: Education: other; requirement for installation of filtration systems in child care centers and schools; exempt if child care center or school does not test positive for lead. Amends secs. 5 & 7 of 2023 PA 154 (MCL 380.1905 & 380.1907).

SB 1036 of 2024: Children: child care; requirement for installation of filtration systems in child care centers and schools; exempt if child care center or school does not test positive for lead. Amends secs. 3i & 3j of 1973 PA 116 (MCL 722.113i & 722.113j).

HB 6022 of 2024: Tobacco: retail sales; preemption of local ordinances pertaining to the sale of tobacco products or the licensure of distributors; eliminate. Amends sec. 14 of 1993 PA 327 (MCL 205.434).
