Dr. Harris Speaks Out Against Medicaid Cuts at Michigan CapitolOn March 20, Aisha Harris, MD, FAAFP, joined fellow physicians at the Michigan Capitol to warn against Medicaid cuts. While speaking during a legislative committee hearing and later at a press conference, Dr. Harris and the Committee to Preserve Health Care emphasized Medicaid’s essential role in protecting the health of Michigan’s most vulnerable residents and supporting the state’s economy. “961,000 Michigan children, that’s nearly 1 million children in our state that rely on Medicaid for their health care,” said Dr. Harris during the press conference. “Without this care, they may not be able to get routine checkups or vaccines. They may have to forgo dental care.” In February, the U.S. House of Representatives adopted a budget resolution that directs the Energy and Committee Committee to cut $880 billion over the course of a decade. Medicaid is among the programs the committee oversees.
