Committee Announces 2015 Advocacy Priorities
One group working behind-the-scenes is the Advocacy Committee, which meets approximately four times per year to discuss the legislative and policy priorities of Family Physicians across the state.
January 21, the MAFP Board of Directors welcomed special guests Rep. John Bizon, MD (R-Battle Creek) and Rep. Ed Canfield, DO (R-Sebewaing) to the first Board meeting of 2015.
While the Michigan legislature officially opened the 2015-16 session this week, some residual work from the 2013-14 session remained. Here is a quick update on those and other legislative issues that MAFP staff have been tracking.

The MAFP Nominating Committee is excited to announce the call for the 2015 Academy Awards (due Feb. 20). Awards to honor the most outstanding educator, resident, and Family Physicians are now open for nominations, and will be presented at the 2015 Annual Conference & Expo (see upcoming events).

2015 Advocacy Day Registration Now Open
MAFP and MAOFP—which collectively represent more than 4,500 Family Physicians statewide—invite you to the 2015 Michigan Family Medicine Advocacy Day on February 24, 2015 in Downtown Lansing. This annual event provides a valuable opportunity for Family Physicians, Family Medicine residents, and medical students to visit with legislators and discuss legislative and policy issues.
Family Medicine for America's Health—the largest campaign ever launched to create awareness and support for the value of Family Physicians in improving the health of Americans through Primary Care—has just announced selected locations for the Health is Primary 2015 City Tour, and Detroit has been selected for Fall 2015!
Oct. 19-22, a delegation of MAFP members traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in the annual American Academy of Family Physicians’ Congress of Delegates. The Michigan Chapter was particularly active this year, offering four resolutions before the AAFP Congress.
