Dr. Saroj Misra Re-elected to ACOFP Board of Governors

Saroj Misra, DO, FACOFP (Warren) was re-elected to serve on the 2023-2024 American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians Board of Governors. Dr. Misra is core faculty with Ascension Macomb-Oakland Family Medicine Residency and chair of the department of family medicine at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital. He also serves as associate dean of clinical affairs at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine at AT Still University and holds a faculty appointment as an associate professor of family and community medicine at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

April 2023 MAFP Member of the Month: Dr. Bentolhoda Atef

Bentolhoda Atef, MD completed medical school in Iran, where she volunteered in refugee camps. Today she is a second-year resident at McLaren-Flint Family Medicine Residency, where she is learning the practice of full-scope medicine in a variety of settings, teaching and mentoring medical students, conducting research, volunteering to give back to the community, and much more. Julie Ngo: 2023 Match Q&A

AAFP News featured Julie Ngo, a soon-to-be graduate of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, in “We Matched! Here’s How You Can, Too.” Julie is one of more than 4,500 medical students and graduates who matched into family medicine residencies nationwide on March 17. She shares her experience of attending medical school during the COVID-19 pandemic and offers advice to students as they prepare for matching in 2024 and beyond. In July, Julie will begin training at Henry Ford-Macomb Family Medicine Residency in Detroit.

Drs. Glenn Dregansky, Mark Hamed on Approval of OTC Narcan

Family physicians are often sought-after experts for weighing in on trending healthcare topics reported on by the media. Recently, MAFP President Glenn Dregnasky, DO, FAAFP (Jerome) and Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan President Mark Hamed, MD, MBA, MPH, FAAFP (Sandusky) were featured in the Bridge Michigan article, Lifesaving Narcan for Drug Overdoses Approved for OTC Sale. They commented on the Food and Drug Administration’s recent approval of the first over-the-counter Narcan nasal spray, paving the way for it to be sold directly to consumers in places like drug stores, convenience stores, grocery stores, and gas stations, as well as online.
